Have you encountered a family member or a friend doing their office work at home?
Mark is an office worker who shifted to doing work from home due to the enhanced community quarantine that has been extended. Mark is juggling his work as a Java Spring-Boot developer for online banking transactions, securing big-data profiles, and maintaining connectivity of all application programming interfaces and engaging in conversation with his parents, cuddling their pet, or doing household chores. More than a month ago, enhanced community quarantine was imposed and this affected big companies and businesses.
Through such considerations, they decided that working from home is the best way to continue with their work during this crisis. At first, he is struggling at his work-space at their house since it was alongside their dining table. It’s not spacious and he manages to put his two laptops on a small table. A month later, he sees that things are now “better” with this new work setup but still misses his work table, comfortable chairs, and talking to his work friends.
There are pros and cons to this kind of work environment; he is now using a VPN just to get access to the bank’s system. He frequently encounters connectivity issues with his internet that affect his work as well as his productivity, making his job more frustrating. Many employees who are working now at their homes are facing problems like having no computers to work with or any access to the internet, resulting in failure to fulfill or delay in performing their duties and responsibilities. Now the companies are giving out internet allowance just to provide good internet access.
Despite all of the difficulties he is facing, Mark has found that working from home is better in the way that you are in control of your time and you can also connect more and bond with your family. Talking about some TV shows, random videos you saw on the internet, and laugh about it. “Spending some quality time to my parents is so important to me” Mark confided. “I miss talking to my workmates face to face and talk about some non-sense,” he said. Mark is also having some problems contacting his higher-ups or any other co-workers for some reason. “It’s frustrating when any of my workmates don’t respond on any work-related concerns, because it consumes more time,” he said.
Juggling his work and being a son inside the house is very difficult to handle when you don’t know how to manage your time wisely. The good thing in all of this is that we are helping the world to heal and at the same time having the opportunity to spend precious time with our family. “I need to be flexible in times like this because it is the key to survive in any situation,” he said.
