Updated: Apr 8, 2021

It has been a year since we have been hit by this pandemic and now, we have a new and better way to prevent this virus from killing more people. According to the Inquirer, “Cavite allots P750 million for COVID-19 vaccines”. There are 3 brands of Covid-19 vaccines that the Cavite government will acquire for the citizens of Cavite.

AstraZeneca is described as a, ‘’science-led biopharmaceutical business and our innovative medicines are used by millions of patients worldwide.” as well as one of the vaccine brands Cavite will be acquiring which has a 60-90% effectiveness. Recently there have been questions and doubts raised because of the fear of blood clots. However, WHO (World Health Organization), approved of this vaccine because there are more benefits than the risk of blood clotting as well as European doctors proving that it is safe from running multiple tests.

Moderna is a pharmaceutical and biotechnology that aims to discover, develop drugs and vaccines. Their brand of vaccine has a 94-100% effectiveness. This vaccine is originally made for the elderly who are 60 and above because the senior citizens are more prone to the virus. Recently, there has been news that Moderna is working to make the vaccine suitable for children and there is no evidence that it is dangerous or unsafe for children.

Pfizer is a biopharmaceutical company, just like Moderna, that makes vaccines. This brand’s vaccine has a 95% effectiveness against symptomatic Covid-19 strains. This is also one of the companies Cavite is looking to, for the acquisition of vaccines for the senior citizens.

There are more vaccines yet to be released in the Philippines but those listed above are the ones Cavite have considered acquiring and information on other vaccines is readily available online. It is advised by medical professionals to get vaccinated when given the chance, so as to lessen the spread of COVID-19 and flatten the curve.
