Since May is the National Heritage Month, the Imus Historical Society joins in the celebration with their “ Talakasaysayan” webinar series.

On their Facebook page, they have announced a webinar under Talakasaysayan entitled, “ Ang Flores de Mayo ng Imus”. This will launch on the 23rd of May, 2021 at 2:00 pm via Zoom. The resource speaker is no other than their IHS chairperson, Dr. Roberto Castaneda

From the two Filipino word “ Talakayan” and “ Saysay” the objective of the Talakasaysayan is to meaningful discussions about the local’s culture, traditions and heritage. The webinar series would run during the whole month period to celebrate the Filipino roots and local traditions of Imus..

To demonstrate its patronage, commemorating Flores de Mayo is one of the most awaited festivals in Imus, Cavite. Every day in May, the rosary is prayed, Mass is celebrated, and flowers are offered in honor of the Virgen del Amor, the Virgin Mary's title as patron of Imus' youth and young women. Although devotion to the Virgen del Amor began during the Spanish conquest, the sacrilege tradition was formally established in 1920. And before the popularity of roses, sampaguita garlands were the traditional offering to the Virgin del Amor during the annual Flores de Mayo.

As the National Heritage Month 2021 begun, local cultural agencies like Imus Historical Society are encouraged to initiate their own related activities inlined with the theme, “Vicatory and Humanity: Upholding Filipino Heritage and Identity” lead by the National Commission for Arts and Culture.
