In the field of agricultural research development, eight Filipino researchers are awarded the eminent Meryl Williams Fellowship by the Australian government in the Australian Centre of International Agricultural Research (ACIAR)
The Following Filipina Meryl William Fellows are:

2.Ma. Victoria Stephane Asio (Science Research Specialist I, University of the Philippines Los Baños)
3.Raquel Balanay, Ph.D. (Professor, Caraga State University)
4.Cresilda Caning, Ph.D. (Associate Professor, Central Bicol State University of Agriculture)
5.Ma. Cynthia Rundina-Dela Cruz, DVM, Ph.D. (Dean, Cavite State University)
6.Venus Leopardas, Ph.D. (Associate Professor, Mindanao State University at Naawan, Misamis Oriental)
7.Maria Rosario Mosqueda, Ph.D. (Dean, Xavier University – Ateneo de Cagayan)
8.Glory Dee Romo, Ph.D. (Assistant Professor, University of the Philippines Mindanao).
The Meryl William Fellowship support female researchers in the field of agriculture across the South East Asia Pacific highlighting the improvement of leadership in management skill and providing collaborative and supporting connections innovating the realm of progress towards gender equality
Steven Robinson, the Australian Ambassador of the Philippines, cited the awardees “demonstrated capacity for leadership and innovation, their research excellence, and their commitment to agricultural development.”
He is pleased that the Philippines this year has the most significant number of awardees having 8 out of 23 women selected all across the Asia Pacific.
He followed up with his statement that “the Australian Government is at the forefront of efforts to promote gender equality and women’s empowerment. The Meryl Williams Fellowship is one of these efforts, focusing on supporting women who are steering transformational changes in agricultural research,”
The midst of the COVID-19 crisis created the contrast of the necessity of innovating and transforming new ideas to improve food and agricultural systems to have a healthier life and resilient through diseases.
